Alberta invests $25.2M in new Mountview Health Complex

EDMONTON — Design work is underway for a new Mountview Health Complex that will deliver health care services to Beaverlodge and surrounding areas, an announcement from the Alberta government highlights.

The province is investing $25.2 million to replace the 68-year-old Beaverlodge Health Centre with a new facility.

The new complex will feature a 24-7 urgent care centre and includes 32 inpatient beds, lab services, diagnostic imaging and emergency medical services. It will also provide inpatient services for recovery, rehabilitation, restorative care and transitional care.

With functional planning complete, the project has entered the design phase, the release reads. The facility is expected to open in 2028 and will be built on 20 acres donated to the town by Doris McFarlane, a longtime community member and former nurse.

The project is being developed by Landrex Inc. in partnership with the Town of Beaverlodge.

Alberta Health Services, in collaboration with the Mountview Health Complex Committee, will continue to consult with residents and health care professionals as the project progresses.

An in-person town hall will be held on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Beaverlodge Community Centre.

According to the release, culturally responsive practices will be incorporated into the design and service delivery of Mountview Health Complex, reflecting the voices and traditional knowledge of Indigenous communities.
