St. Albert Place retrofit receives $13.9 million funding boost

St. Albert Place retrofit receives $13.9 million funding boost

ST. ALBERT, ALTA. — A retrofit of St. Albert Place has just received $13.9 million in joint funding from the federal government and City of St. Albert.

St. Albert Place is the main community hub for the city. It serves as City Hall and the primary cultural facility containing the public library, Musée Heritage Museum, Arden theatre and visual arts studios, states a news release.

The proposed retrofit will help increase energy savings, reduce GHG emissions and improve climate resiliency and accessibility.

The Government of Canada is investing over $5.7 million in the project through the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings program and the city is contributing $8.2 million.

“These upgrades to the 39-year-old building not only take into consideration its historic significance, but also directly take action against climate change,” said Cathy Heron, the mayor of St. Albert, in the release.
