H2H honours veterans, highlights resources for second career

OTTAWA — In recognition of Remembrance Day, Helmets to Hardhats (H2H) is honouring the brave men and women who have served or are serving the nation in the Canadian military by connecting them with second careers in construction.

“The mission of Helmets to Hardhats goes beyond job placement – it’s about restoring purpose and providing stability to those who served,” explains a release.

As such the organization is highlighting the organizations who help with the training, support and job opportunities for veterans transitioning into civilian life.

  • Canada’s Building Trades Unions: Offering apprenticeships across 14 building trade unions, with 60-plus trade options, these partnerships ensure long-term security for veterans through stable career paths, benefits and pensions.
  • SkillPlan: From entry-level training to skills sharpening, SkillPlan’s platform helps veterans at all stages of their transition, delivering skills upgrading and e-learning to build workforce readiness.
  • Government of Ontario: Through the Skills Development Fund, Ontario enables H2H to offer pre-employment safety training, giving veterans a head start in the job market.
  • Millwright Regional Council: Veterans can benefit from a scholarship program to pursue a one-year millwright certificate, with financial and educational support.
  • Nova Scotia ion Sector Council: Providing hands-on experience, this council ensures veterans gain valuable, practical skills for the construction industry.
