REGINA – The Government of Saskatchewan has announced it is investing $25 million through the Saskatchewan Technology Fund to support 13 industry-driven projects focused on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The projects leverage more than $277 million in additional private sector and government investment, a release said.

“By focusing on technology and innovation, we are ensuring that Saskatchewan takes a leadership role in environmental responsibility while remaining at the forefront of innovation. These projects demonstrate that Saskatchewan industries can thrive while reducing their carbon footprints, all without imposing the burdensome costs of a carbon tax,” Saskatchewan Environment Minister Christine Tell said in the release.

The largest investment is $12.5 million for Strathcona Resources to conserve natural gas currently flared at a site near Manor, Sask. by installing pipeline infrastructure to transport the gas to market.

Crescent Point will receive $2.85 million to reduce flaring of associated gas at the company’s oil operations in southwest Saskatchewan by installing gathering infrastructure to transport the gas to Steel Reef’s processing plant.

Vermillion Energy will receive $1.75 million to reduce flaring at an oil battery site in southeast Saskatchewan by installing pipeline infrastructure to conserve the associated natural gas from oil production.

Burgess Creek will see a $1.45 million investment to mitigate the venting and flaring of natural gas at two battery sites in southeast Saskatchewan by installing pipeline infrastructure to transport the gas to Steel Reef’s processing plant.
