TORONTO \u2014 One male worker has died, and two others sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries after reports a pit collapsed while crews were fixing a sewer pipe in the area of Bayview and Ruddington avenues in Toronto Nov. 6.<\/p>\n
Toronto police, medics and fire were called to the scene at 3200 Bayview Avenue at approximately 5:25 p.m.<\/p>\n
During a media briefing Toronto Fire Platoon Chief Chris Rowland stated the workers were inspecting pipes and had inserted a camera inside their excavation, which had not been shored.<\/p>\n
A portion of the soil then collapsed on top of one of the workers and trapped two others.<\/p>\n
Rescuers dug for over an hour to free two of the workers, who were then taken to hospital.<\/p>\n
Two Ministry of Labour (MOL) inspectors were dispatched to the scene and an investigation is currently underway.<\/p>\n
