VIDEO: AEC Cares blitz build transforms the Lark-Inn shelter in San Francisco
WARREN FREY - AEC Cares president Jennifer Johnson, design lead Abigail Jones, Larkin Street Youth Services executive director Sherilyn Adams and San Francisco Mayor London Breed.

The AEC Cares #projectSanFrancisco blitz build at the Lark-Inn shelter for homeless young adults in San Francisco took a day but the positive results will be felt for years to come.

Every year AEC Cares works with a non-profit located in the host city of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) annual conference, held this year in San Francisco. Over 140 volunteers from °µÍø½ûÇøConnect, the AIA, and many sponsors, general contractors and designers lent their time, expertise and funds to changing one of the shelters run by Larkin Street Youth Services into a more welcoming, comfortable facility with living and social spaces for 18 to 24-year-old young adults experiencing homelessness.

AEC Cares president Jen Johnson said though the build takes a day, preparation for the next event starts immediately afterward. Next year’s build is planned for the 2024 AIA conference in Washington, D.C.
