VANCOUVER — The construction industry is continuing to offer help to Syria and Turkey after the nations were devastated by multiple earthquakes in recent weeks.
The Labourers’ International Union of North America Local 1611 is donating $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to assist with earthquake relief.
“We are 10,000 kilometres away but we can still help from afar, thanks to our members,” said Nav Malhotra, business manager/secretary-treasurer for the union, in a statement.
The death toll is more than 41,000 people and is expected to rise.
Those who wish to donate to the Red Cross can go to or can call 1-800-418-1111. The Government of Canada will be matching individual donations until Feb. 22.
