On this episode of The °µÍø½ûÇøion Record podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with PCL °µÍø½ûÇøion manager of special projects Ryan Kuntz and project manager Rob Mitschke about The Neoma, a 1950s office building in downtown Calgary the company recently converted into affordable housing.
Kuntz and Mitschke detailed the process of updating features of the building to bring it to code while preserving heritage components, as well as the challenge of working in very tight spaces on an accelerated schedule during both COVID and the recent supply chain crisis.
They also explained how they were able to use new technology such as laser scanning the interior so designers had an exact model of the building to work with before repurposing it into a series of residences, and focused on PCL’s collaboration with Calgary’s HomeSpace Society to bring the project to fruition.
