Cracks in the Foundation – National DCN-JOC series delves into the ‘other pandemic’

Rob Trymbulak, Trevor Botkin and Julian Toy.

They may seem like just names, but these men were brave enough to tackle substance use head on and have been advocating for others in construction to do the same since the day they decided to choose a path to recovery.

Featured as part of a Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commercial national series entitled Cracks in the Foundation – Mental Health, Substance Use and ion, they shared intimate details of the life of an addict who works in construction. More importantly, they revealed how they got help and how others can do so too.

Experts in the substance use field also weighed in, sharing that the “macho” stigma of a career in construction does play a role in those who may want to seek help.

Tackling what has been coined “the other pandemic,” several associations, unions and recovery resource networks have come together to try and combat this growing problem before substance use claims another life.

Please read below to see all of the stories, videos and podcasts we generated as part of our multimedia series, which was comprised of three parts.
