McGill’s Architectural Playshop nominated for UIA award

MONTREAL — The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada has announced the nomination of the Architecture Playshop and Dual Credit High School Architecture Bootcamp at McGill University in Montreal for submission to the International Union of Architects (UIA) Architecture and Children Golden Cubes Awards.

The awards honour individuals and organizations that help children develop a better understanding of architecture and the built environment, stated a recent release.

National entrants were invited to submit entries describing activities or products designed to teach children and young people, from preschool up to the age of 18, about architectural design and the processes by which the environment is formed.

The playshop was nominated in the Audio-Visual Media Award category. The citation stated, “This audio-visual media project explains in a pedagogically innovative and visually compelling way the complex interconnectedness between climate action and the built environment. Geared to young children, ages four to nine, the program uses a range of media to engage them in learning in a holistic way about the impact of the built environment on climate change and social equity.”

The awards will be presented at the 28th UIA Congress to be held in Copenhagen in July.
